Recently, a chemical materials scientist at the University of Konstanz in Germany discovered a method for transferring fatty acids in vegetable oils to polyesters in an intact manner. The results of this research will help to develop renewable bioplastics at low cost using vegetable oils.
Extracting sugar, cellulose, and vegetable oils is a promising technology for making plastic chemical monomers. However, previous manufacturing processes can only partially convert plant fatty acids, causing waste of raw materials; or the molecular structure of obtained chemical monomers is chaotic. Causes problems such as soft and hydrolytic instability in the resulting plastic. The results of applying the scientific research personnel of this school can preserve the fatty acids in vegetable oils in the process of manufacturing polyesters, so that the molecular arrangement of the produced polyesters maintains a strict long chain linear structure with high crystallinity. Melting ability is comparable to that of general-purpose polyethylene.
